MENLO PARK, CA — Silicon Valley vet Dami Oyefeso has joined Robinhood as head of consumer PR.

“I’m excited to blend my love for storytelling, innovation, and community to amplify our transformative mission,” Oyefeso, who was most recently with Google’s X, The Moonshot Factory, said in a LinkedIn post.

“In my role I’ll be responsible for leading proactive seasonal moments & partnering with our biz/finance comms leads to land consumer focused angles. If you’re a creator, journalist, podcaster or broadcast producer covering finance, investing or money - holla at ya girl,” she wrote.

Oyefeso, one of PRovoke Media’s 2022 Innovator 25, said that before joining Robinhood she had been on a “purposeful” nine month sabbatical following the dissolution of her team at Google, where she served as the innovation lab’s PR and innovation storyteller. She previously held senior comms roles at Meta and has run her own firm, Agile PR, for nearly five years.

Robinhood's comms function is currently lead by  Rochelle Nadhiri, who joined Robinhood in April 2022 from Meta.

Nadhiri's arrival at Robinhood came roughly seven months after Christina Smedley stepped down from her role as chief marketing and communications officer following a tumultuous year for the investment platform.

Smedley’s Robinhood tenure was marked by a PR crisis, when the stock trading app faced considerable scrutiny — and 30-plus lawsuits — related to 2021’s GameStop buying frenzy. At that time, Robinhood was working with at least two communications firms, Zeno and digital firm MediaMonks, as it tried to get control of the PR crisis that blew up when the platform restricted users’ ability to buy GameStop stock, the price of which they drove up at the expense of short sellers on Wall Street.
