MEXICO CITY—Indigenous agencies dominated the nominations for the 2021 Latin American SABRE Awards, with Sherlock Communications and its clients leading the way with 17 finalists, just ahead of JeffreyGroup and its clients with 15 nominations.

Other firms whose clients received double-digit nominations were international firms Edelman (12) and Porter Novelli (10). There were also multiple finalists from agencies including Orange 360 of Peru (nine nominations); Chilean-based MGC (seven); LatAm Intersect, based in Brazil and regional network LLYC (six each); global agency Weber Shandwick (five); and Brazilian firm ViaNews (four).

“The quality and quantity of work we see from Latin America—and from Latin American agencies—continue to improve,” says Paul Holmes, who chaired the Latin American jury. “Despite difficult conditions in the region following more than a year of Covid-related challenges, we received record entries from a more diverse range of agencies and clients.

“Not only that, but we are seeing a more sophisticated approach to research and planning, some really impressive content creation, and a solid approach to measurement and evaluation that goes well beyond counting media clips to include real business impact. The winners this year were as good as any work we saw in North America or Europe.”

Those winners will be announced at our Latin American SABRE ceremony, which will once again take place virtually, on September 28 as part of the Mexican PRORP’s annual RADICAL conference.
