MARSEILLE, FRANCE — Global sea, land, air and logistics company CMA CGM Group, the world’s third largest container shipping company, has appointed Roland Sladek to lead corporate communications.

In the newly-created role of vice president and communications director, Sladek will lead all global communications and branding for the CMA CGM group and its subsidiaries, including external, internal and digital communications, as well as CSR communications, branding, sponsorships and corporate partnerships in the areas of sport and culture, as well as a commitment to the region of Marseille in France, where the group is headquartered.

Sladek joins after four years at Swedish-Swiss engineering technology multinational ABB, where he was head of communications for the power grids division in Zurich. He has also held senior communications roles at Huawei, where he was VP international media affairs, based in Shenzhen, China, and Dutch telecoms firm Veon, among others.

He will report directly to executive officer Tanya Saadé Zeenny. At the same time, Damien Denizot, formerly deputy communications director, has been appointed chief of staff to Saadé Zeenny and will oversee institutional relations in Marseille.

Sladek told PRovoke Media that his decision to join the firm was based on “its commitment to finding better ways in doing business – more innovative, responsible, and respectful of people and of the planet.”

He added: “I am also a firm believer that all of us have a role to play in finding solutions to tackle climate change, the paramount task of our times. The group’s net zero carbon target by 2050 will be a significant challenge, but it will be an essential part in the global fight against climate change. On a personal note, I am also looking forward to working with Tanya Saadé Zeeny, whose leadership significantly shaped the group’s global recognition and image.”
