NEW YORK — SourceCode Communications has acquired Chicago creative agency Strike 2, adding a fourth firm to the newly created SourceCode Group.

The move expands SourceCode’s digital practice, boosting digital marketing capabilities while bringing advertising services and creative campaign development in-house.

Strike 2’s founders, former ad agency execs Jason Weinberger and Matt Kaminsky, will continue to lead the shop and work across SourceCode’s practices. The merger raises SourceCode’s headcount from 33 to 39. Strike 2 is the first acquisition in SourceCode’s five-year history.

SourceCode co-founder and managing partner Greg Mondshein said making Strike 2 part of the agency (the two firms have partnered on projects for roughly a year) will improve the agency’s ability to offer clients a wider array of services.

“We have always felt that we are really good story tellers, but there was an opportunity to get better at amplifying those stories in a more integrated, cross-platform way,” Mondshein said. “These guys are a creative advertising agency. They think of programs in a different way.”

Strike 2 is the fourth member of The SourceCode Group, a newly formed umbrella group announced in conjunction with the acquisition.

The group also includes SourceCode; WeRaise PR, a subsidiary designed specifically to employ moms who would otherwise leave the industry; and Diversity Marketing Consortium, a SourceCode-led group of agencies supporting minority and women-owned businesses.
