BANGKOK — MXP Ventures has backed its second agency in Asia, Thailand’s Spotlight PR, which will use the investment to expand its regional reach and services.

The agency will rebrand as Spotlight Communications Asia, reflecting its offerings beyond public relations including KOL management, content creation, social media, and digital marketing.

MXP’s backing will also enable Spotlight to expand its footprint in Southeast Asia in 2024 to cover strategic markets such as Vietnam and Singapore.

Founded in 2020 by Shaun Son Pham, Spotlight PR is a full-service public relations agency that has worked with both established brands and startups, including Netflix, HBO GO, Cartoon Network, DC Comics, Amazon, SAP, Amity and Tesla.

"Southeast Asia is a fast-growing market and we are thrilled to partner with Shaun, who speaks three languages, and brings a truly global business perspective and deep local market expertise to the MXP portfolio," said MXP Ventures founding partner Michael Young. "Global and regional brands are looking for an agency partner that is fluent in international communications practices and can translate creative ideas into local market activations that drive business impact--Shaun and his team are the perfect partner.”

MXP Ventures was founded in October 2021 by Michael Young, the founder of San Francisco agency holding company Millwright Holdings, and Tilo Bonow, the founder of Berlin PR agency Piabo, with the aim of building the next generation of marketing services agencies.

Spotlight is MXP Ventures’ ninth investment. In September, the group backed the launches of Amsterdam digital and social media agency Tailored employee engagement specialist Voxeon Communications.

The venture fund's portfolio also includes PNTR Communications in Indonesia, social change firm Better Together in Washington DC, Paris-based Entourage, a communications advisory firm focused on CEO reputation and thought leadership, Ellipse Communications, also in France, and two UK agencies: Bound to Prosper, founded by Lydia Hoye, previously the managing partner at Kazoo, and Upside PR, launched by former Flagship MD Mark Pinnes.
