MUMBAI — Paroma Roy Chowdhury is joining Indian fantasy gaming unicorn Dream Sports, PRovoke Media can reveal, in the newly-created role of chief communications and advocacy officer.

Dream Sports is the parent company of Dream11, the fast-growing fantasy sports company that recently served as IPL title sponsor. Dream Sports earlier secured US$225m in a financing round that values the sports tech company at $2.5bn.

The move comes after Roy Chowdhury stepped down from her role as Softbank's senior director of Asia communications and public affairs. She is expected to relocate to Mumbai for the Dream Sports position in 2021.

According to sources familiar with the situation, Roy Chowdhury's position at Dream Sports will involve a considerable focus on policy and regulatory advocacy, in addition to global expansion and eventual plans to go public. She will work directly with the founders Harsh Jain and Bhavit Shah.

Founded in 2008, Dream Sports' other brands include multisport app FanCode, sports accelerator program DreamX, and sports-focused tour agency DreamSetGo. The company has more than 100m users, capitalising on the passion for cricket in the world's second-largest internet market.

Roy Chowdhury joined Softbank International in 2015, after spending seven years with Google India as corporate communications head. She was not available for comment when contacted by PRovoke Media.
