LONDON — Splendid Communications has won Burger King’s UK PR account, after a three-way competitive pitch.

The agency will lead the fast food chain’s press office and reactive news programme, as well as developing campaigns to support "commercial moments" and global communications in the UK. The team will also handle crisis and issues management for Burger King UK.

Splendid joins Burger King’s roster of marketing partners, including advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty and digital specialist Coolr, which became the company’s social media agency in 2018.

The account is being overseen by Splendid CEO Alec Samways, working alongside Katie Evans, chief marketing officer at Burger King UK. Associate director and creative lead Fran Langdon is leading on the account, reporting into Burger King UK brand and communications director Soco Núñez de Cela and senior brand manager Suzi Hoy.

Samways said: “As one of the biggest brands in the world, we’re incredibly excited to partner with Burger King, as it brings another opportunity to deliver work with real cultural impact. It’s an exciting, yet challenging time for the category, but the team at Burger King UK are an inspiring bunch, and we are fired up to join them in facing these challenges.”

Splendid takes over from Frank, which had worked with Burger King since 2019. Frank managing partner Melissa Robinson told PRovoke Media: “The last three years have been a whopper of a ride, from award-winning campaigns such as BK Meltdown to Tinie Tempah performing Whoppa on a Whopper. We've had loads of fun working with Burger King and are now flame-grilled for life.”

The win comes after Splendid announced the launch of Splendid Collective at the end of 2021, as it took a majority stake in cultural communications agency Kingdom Collective.

Burger King UK joins Splendid’s roster of consumer brands, including Peroni, Tesco and Walkers.
